... "Manual therapy is the use of hands in a curative and healing manner or a hands on technique with therapeutic intent"...
Manual therapy involves joint mobilisations that can be done on any joint in the body... from the spine to the ankle!
The therapist will encourage movement, increase mobility, reduce pain and stiffness by passively moving the joint in different ways...
Movements that you can't "consciously" perform but that are essential for fluid and pain free movement. These include ROLL, SPIN and GLIDE actions.
Movements that you CAN do yourself, and do on a daily basis, but that are done with you in a relaxed position, whilst the therapist moves your limb/joint to increase mobility and promote relaxation of local tissues.
Movements that are similar to the original "pain-causing" movement, but that are done in a different manner, so as to encourage healing and increase your range of movement, whilst reducing pain.
A movement slightly beyond what you can do when you do the movement yourself. Your therapist will perform this movement whilst you are relaxed with an aim to increase your mobility and flexibility and reduce your pain.

If manual therapy worked on a lot of people, then I guess it is about time that we acknowledge the effectivity of manual therapy. But of course, only experts can do it right now and not everyone has the license to perform it. Make sure that the manual therapy you'll undergo to is done by an expert and not by someone who doesn't know anything about it. By the way, I will make more research about this manual therapy!
